I got started in scrapbooking in the early 1990's when my mother pulled
out a huge box of photographs when we were looking for some specific photos.
Inside the box were some old albums from when I was a child with the old
black paper and photo corners. Also in the box were photos still in the
envelopes that they came in from the photo processor.
Sadly, some of the photos were in real bad shape, so I told my mother
that I had just heard about "scrapbooking" and would take her photos home
and put them into safe photo albums. The first job I tackled was to get
the photos out of the old album and into a safe environment. I was surprised
to find a lot of the photos had writing on the back of them - with dates
and peoples names on them! I scanned all of that, had them printed on acid-free
paper, and included that in the album along side the photos. I even put
the photos in the correct date order in the album.
About 20 albums later, I have scrapbooked all the photos from the time
my parents had got married until about 1998.
In 2001, my sister was pregnant and I made her a blank album as
a baby shower gift. Everyone who seen it have loved it, and I started
getting jobs making blank albums for people - which lead to me making custom
albums using their photographs and stories.
Recently, I realized how much I enjoyed creating scrapbooks and promoting the
preservation of not only photographs but the stories and memories that
go along with them.
So, Bit of Memories was born.
